Johan Rockstroöm is Co-Chair of the 2016 SLOW LIFE Symposium.

Johan Rockström is a Professor in Environmental Science with emphasis on water resources and global sustainability at Stockholm University, and the Executive Director of Stockholm Resilience Centre.
He is an internationally recognised scientist on global sustainability issues. Working with an international team of scientists, Johan identified and quantified a set of nine planetary boundaries within which humanity can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come – while crossing them could generate abrupt or irreversible environmental changes.

He is a leading scientist on global water resources and strategies to build resilience in water scarce regions of the world, with more than 15 years’ experience from applied water research in tropical regions, and more than 100 research publications in fields ranging from applied land and water management to global sustainability.
He serves on several scientific committees and boards. He is Chair of the Advisory Board of the EAT Initiative, an international platform for science, policy and business on healthy and sustainable food systems.

Johan is scientific lead, together with Pavel Kabat (IIASA), Jeffrey Sachs (Earth Institute) and SDSN, on a new research initiative, The World in 2050, gathering leading global modelling and analytical groups exploring pathways to attain the Sustainable Development Goals within planetary boundaries.

Johan is co-author of The Human Quest: Prospering Within Planetary Boundaries and Big World, Small Planet: Abundance Within Planetary Boundaries.
