Diana is a geographer who currently directs of the Institute of the Environment at The University of Arizona. She is known internationally for her research on climate change and society especially vulnerability and adaptation, food security, and the social drivers of global environmental change. She has worked with the planetary boundaries and Future Earth scientific teams and has advised the US government through leading advisory committees on informing America’s Climate Choices, the Human Dimensions of Global Change, and global change in the Americas. Her current projects focus on how to successfully achieve an effective and just triple win on poverty alleviation, climate mitigation, and climate adaptation; how social science can provide solutions to environmental change; and how we can more effectively communicate the risks of mega-drought, climate extremes, and climate variability in the Americas.
